Introduction to Card Making

This course can be run ‘workshop style’ for groups from 6 to 12 people over 4 sessions or as a ‘one to one’ or ‘one to two’ full day course in our workshop.

Develop card design confidence with a practical knowledge of useful techniques:

Session 1 – Basic Techniques to Make Attractive Cards

  • Learn about card quality, sizing, blanks, folding, scoring and adhesives
  • The art of matting; cutting neat mats to highlight and display your designs
  • Use of embellishments
  • Composition – how things work visually

Session 2 – Stamping and Heat Embossing

  • Types of ink pads and how to stamp neatly
  • Heat embossing powder and how to use it to add shine and sparkle
  • Colouring stamped images
  • Stamp layering techniques

Session 3 – Adding Texture to Create Interest and Depth

  • Textured and faux textured papers, mixing and matching
  • Producing textures with a die cutting machine, embossing folders and texture plates
  • Ink blending and embellishment

Session 4 – Die Cutting

  • How to use dies and a die cutting machine
  • Altering and embellishing die cut shapes to produce your own toppers
  • Using die cuts in card design

Full day ‘one to one’ or ‘one to two’ day course from £150.00 per person including refreshments and a light lunch.


Four two hour group workshops, minimum 6 people, from £48.00 per person.
